Four-year-old cancer patient, Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) was in the hospital when she announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Initially her parents dismissed her request as it was winter in the Northeast and probably not the best time to set up a lemonade stand. But, she persisted and her first lemonade stand raised $2,000 and would eventually grow into a namesake foundation with thousands of supporters across the country championing her cause.
Alex’s dream of reaching $1 million came true before she passed away from neuroblastoma in 2004, but she inspired a legacy of hope that continues to raise funds and awareness. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) has raised more than $140 million and funds over 690 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
